Somewhere Quiet
Not too far from the chaos of the city, in a calm place surrounded by silence, somewhere between the stillness of the buildings and the continuous movement of the ocean, a fisherman with his fishing pole in the sand is checking the line.
I usually take photos of the places I visit when I travel. I wake up early for a good sunrise or wait for the perfect sunset and most of the time I try to plan my photo shoot in advance, but nature is unpredictable and you never know how it’s going to be, so pretty often it happens that I just sit there and enjoy the moment. Sometimes, and this is my favorite part of photography, I see something unexpected that I simply can’t leave there. Maybe it’s just for the light or the composition in general, but I can’t go away without bringing what I see away with me. Through photography, I can steal that specific scene and the feeling it generates saving it from the flow of time before anything changes.

When I went for a walk in Main Beach(Gold Coast, Australia) at sunrise I saw something I had never had the chance to see before. The low tide turned the beach into a never-ending mirror that was reflecting everything nearby. The fishermen were standing on the bank with their eyes on the ocean and their fishing poles in the sand. One of them was fishing by himself. He looked focused on doing something with the fishing line, while the sound of the ocean was washing his thoughts away. The ocean was so loud that was silencing everything else while the mist was trying to hide the skyscrapers of the coastal city. The fisherman was standing there, in a quiet place he found for himself and his thoughts. I took the camera and chose that moment to remember the feeling I felt standing on the beach with him that day.
